I like to paint so much that it is almost a chore to have to enter art contests and exhibits.
All I want to do is paint.
However, there are 4 great art shows coming soon that I'm getting motivated to enter.
1. James Warwick Jones informed me of the Virginia art show ...more about that later.
2. The Smithfield Cultural Art Ctr. in Smithfield, VA is having a jurored selection of art for the Gift Shop there.
3. A Miniature show in North Carolina...more about that soon.
4. The Hampton Convention Ctr. is asking for LARGE WORKS OF ART FOR THEIR MANY WALLS IN THE LOVELY LOBBY AND OTHER AREAS OF THE BUILDING.
mORE ON THAT LATER TOO.

News: I have discovered a great art link
Fineartamerica is a great art link.
It is more than a link.
Please read my blog discussing the benefits of joining FAA.
*If you google "Fineartamerica", you should go directly to the site.
Welcome Friends Near and Far
I have not added to this website lately because I have been busy with Fine Art America.
Also I had a fall recently and a few injuries. I am o.k. in that department now.
FAA is a website that artist anywhere can join.
There is no cost. There are no strings attached.
Thousands of artists from many parts of the world are members.
One can view their sites easily.
I often enter comments to compliment an artist.
The artist often replies, then compliments my art entries as well.
It is a delightful, safe, uplifting way to meet people of similar interests across the miles.
The FAA site offers a one time fee of only 30.00 a YEAR if one would like to sell prints of the originals.
The Echo Lake Art site is still my "baby."
No new uploads have been done lately but I am still proud of it.
The Gift Shop has unique and pretty gift items at low prices.
Please tap into it.
I must go check my pumpkin pies in the stove.
Happy Thanksgiving and Best Regards to you and yours,
Sincerely,
Anne-Elizabeth Whiteway

Rainy Sunday at Echo Lake

2nd Guitar lesson : making progress
Lovely rainy day here in Virginia.
News: I had my 2nd guitar lesson Tuesday.
My teacher was amazed that I knew all the notes in the book.
Just finding them on the cotton pickin' guitar is the challenge.
I need to practice. Cutting my fingernails off short helped.
Puttin a little Crazy Glue on my left hand fingertips will help (some say.)
Yes I know to wait until it dries before touching anything.
Duh.

New Art Exhibit at Smithfield Cultural Arts Ctr.
Dear Friends, near & far,
First of all, thanks to Taunya Tae Waxham, I was able to figure out how to get back into my blog.
Now for the news:
My Siamese Cat picture, titled "Siamese If You Please" will be shown in the members art show at Smithfield Cultural Arts Ctr. Main St. Smithfield, VA.
The reception is this coming FRIDAY, July 11, 2008
6-8.
Please come & rub shoulders with us artsy folks.
No charge for entry.
Refreshments will be served.
This painting is one of my favorites.
It is on a tall "canvas-wrap".
The cat is gray and the backgound is burgandy with a few delicate white & bluish -green designs at top & bottom of this tall painting.
This show will be on for a month.
Be there or be square. :-)

Hold on Tight to Your Dreams. I did.
Hey! Hold on tight to your dreams. I did.
Since I'm here,
I may as well advertise myself.
Some of my art can be found in the following locations:
The Smithfield Bakery and Gourmet Rest. (Main Street)
Smithfield Cultural Arts Center (Main Street)
Dr. Andy Harris's Chiropractic (Church Street)
All of the above are in my town: Smithfield, VA USA
Also I have 7 works displayed at Dr. Robert Baer's Dermitology Office in Norfolk,VA.
My subjects range from the whimsical "Frolicking Fish" a smiling,
brightly colored fish, to the realistic "Going Coastal" which features a scene with a lighthouse and sailboat.
I paint with acrylics.
Once in a
blue moon I paint with oils, as my Dad, a talented fine artist, always used.
I started out with watercolors, including watercolor pencils.
However, acrylics & mixed media allow me to achieve the deep textures which I love.
Acrylics dry very fast. So this allows me to paint layers upon layers.
I enjoy using glitter, sequins, glass paint and even "spackle" for whimsical, textured images.)
I am a prolific painter. However, I still have MUCH to learn & consider myself an amateur always.
Taking art classes with Valeria Wilson as instructor is helpful in many ways.

Points to Ponder (Quotation about Creativity)
Creativity cannot be taught
It cannot be copied
It cannot be bought.
It only happens when we truly give up everything around us.
Once we achieve total emptiness then creativity can start to fill the void.

It has finally happened...
Hello Friends,
It has finally happened.
Yours truly figured out how to do something on the computer with no outside help.
I started a web log (blog) at verizon.net.
It's a great way to express oneself.
Another awesome thing about it:
Comments arrive from people you don't know, from places you don't know but with shared interests or at least inquisitive minds.
So if you ever want to look at my beginning blog, go to rainboweyes's blog at verizon.net.
(The apostrophe & s were not initially what I wrote in, but that's how it ended up.)
In any case, this is fun.

The After Life Show at Charles H. Taylor Arts Ctr.
Yes, the art show has begun.
The reception was fun.
The exhibit will be on until Nov. 24, 2007 at the Charles H. Taylor Arts Ctr. on Victoria Blvd. in Hampton, Virginia.
My piece is on the left wall on the lst floor:
"Kokopelli Movement I".
It features Kokopelli figures dancing happily & has a black background.
I hope you can see the show.
There are many creative, breathtaking displays.
Upstairs, downstairs and even upstairs in the back, where you would not at first think to go.
But now you know!
I am honored and pleased to have been invited to participate in this.
Many well-known Virginia artists are represented.
The Afterlife Show at Charles H. Taylor Arts Ctr.
